With a deep love for the outdoors, Steve Robertson was a man with a good heart who was always looking for an opportunity to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

The year 1967 was certainly eventful in the United States since it was during this year that racial violence spun out of control in cities such as Detroit and New York City, the death toll of American soldiers in Vietnam reached 5,000, and opposition to the Vietnam War was growing with countless demonstrations held from coast to coast. This was a year of great significance in the family of Carl and Donna (Van Putten) Robertson for a very different reason as they welcomed the birth of their son, Steve, on February 16th. Steve was born at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in the midst of the blizzard of 67,as the sixth of seven children in his family. It was as a young boy that Steve learned to work with his hands, enjoyed doing manual labor, and grew to love the outdoors – all interests that would remain with him throughout the rest of his life. Steve attended Vicksburg schools where he was the president of the FFA and graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1985.

After high school, Steve secured employment at Pan-O-Grave and served his apprenticeship in the tool and die industry. Over the years, he worked at a variety of jobs within this industry in the Kalamazoo and Vicksburg areas.

While he was busy building his career, Steve also married and was blessed to become a father to two wonderful children, Kevin and Stephanie. The days that they were born were among his most treasured memories. Steve was a supportive father who loved having fun with his children. Some of the most precious moments they shared together were on camping trips to the Upper Peninsula.

With his free time, Steve enjoyed a variety of interests. He loved being outdoors and doing various outdoor activities including camping, fishing, and hunting on one occasion. Steve was a skilled woodworker who liked making numerous things with his special gift. When relaxing at home, Steve liked to watch the History Channel on television. He could find fun in the simple things in life such as taking a Sunday morning stroll through Home Depot with his brother, looking at all the tools and hardware.

Steve Robertson was a giving man with a heart of gold who lived a simple life. He was a loving father who delighted in his children and grandson and all of the precious time they shared together. Steve will be missed by those who loved him dearly.

Steve Robertson died suddenly on Monday, March 8, 2010. Members of his family include his children Kevin and Stephanie, a grandson Ian, his mother Donna, 6 brothers and sisters: Barb (Norm Jr.) Constant, Deb Matthews, Brenda (Perry) Stermer, Craig and Becky Robertson, Cathy and Bob Carey and Diane and Anthony Felicijan. Memorial Services will be held 11 am, Saturday, March 13th at the Portage Church of Christ, 6385 South 12th Street.
