After a brief illness Robert (Bob) Oorbeck passed away peacefully at the age of 86. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on June 10, 1938, the son of Bert and Cora (Van Dyke) Oorbeck. He was married to Joan (Zegerius) Oorbeck in June of 1966. Bob served in the US Army from 1961 - 1963 at Fort Benning, Georgia. Prior to that, he attended Parsons Business College, earning a degree in business accounting. He had a career in industrial and electrical sales working for Dunkley International, Inc., and Standard Electric from where he retired in 2006. Bob enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours tending his home garden. He also loved playing many sports, especially baseball and basketball. Over the years he coached several sports teams including soccer, co-ed basketball and softball. He had a special affinity for umpiring little league baseball and softball. Bob is survived by his spouse of 58 years, Joan; his children Ellen (Craig), David (Tsutomu), Jenny (Jean); and eight grandchildren Carter (Ashley), Lauren (Ryan), Cole, Tiffinny, Nathan, and Lucas. He is also survived by his sister Joan (Lou), and brother Gary (Vicki). He has numerous nieces and nephews who loved "Uncle Bob", and was predeceased by one granddaughter, Marieke. For several years Bob was a member of Pine Island Presbyterian Church. Bob chose to be cremated. In his honor donations may be made to Pine Island Presbyterian Chapel, Centrica Rose Arbor Place Hospice, or South Michigan Food Bank , c/o the funeral home. A memorial service will be held 2 pm Saturday April 5, 2025 at Pine Island Presbyterian Chapel, 8882 West Q Avenue Mattawan, MI 49071.
