Obituary
Died Thursday, February 18, 2009, after a long illness. He was born in Oneonta, NY on April 1, 1927, a son of William McKinley Houghton and Alice Roosevelt (Webster) Houghton. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the Counter Intelligence Corps stationed in Japan from December 1945 through October 1948, when he received an honorable discharge. Robert graduated from Morrisville College with an associates degree in Food Processing and was employed by the Libby Company for ten years. He then worked for Welch's Grape Juice Company in Kalamazoo, MI where he made his home and later retired. His primary hobbies included oil painting, dog showing, bowling and golfing. Robert loved to work around his house landscaping and gardening. Surviving are immediate family members; three brothers, Bruce Houghton and wife Janice (Roberts) of Norwich, NY, Jack Houghton and wife, Derinda (Howlett) of Madison, NY and Carl Houghton and wife, Patricia (Franco) of New Berlin, NY; three sisters, Jean (Houghton, Herran) King of Matthews, NC, Mary (Houghton) Mauck of Hamilton, NY and Shirley (Houghton, Coleman) Harp of Morrisville, NY. Robert had many nieces and nephews, Peter, Vincent, Rose and Michael Herran; Fredrick, Karen (Mauck) Conger, William and David Mauck; Deborah, Jerry and James Coleman; Andrea (Houghton) Weir, Robert and Teresa Houghton; Wayne, Brett and Greg Houghton; Elizabeth (Houghton) Olsen, Michael Houghton and Emelinda (Houghton) Gronwall. A prayer service and interment service will be held in late spring at the Plains Cemetery in Oneonta, NY. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S.
