Life Story / Obituary
Raymond Ivens was a man who knew how to enjoy his surroundings. Growing up on the family farm in Scotts, Michigan gave him the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors and care for animals. Raymond's tender heart had a soft spot for God's creatures. He took every chance he got to show them love and affection there on the farm.
Grace and Ray Ivens were joyful with the arrival of their baby boy. Raymond Ivens was born to them on March 10, 1936 in Battle Creek and they relished the opportunity to name the baby boy after his father Ray. Sadly, when Raymond was still young, his father Ray passed away. In time, Grace married Eldin Strong. Together they provided Raymond with two brothers, Ralph and Jim, and a sister named Ruby. Being on the farm allowed Raymond a chance to watch people farm, see the tractors plow, walk in the fields and visit with the farm animals. Raymond's favorite outfit was his comfortable overalls. All decked out in his farming attire he would spend hours in the field picking corn. Once his bucket was full he headed over to the pig pen to treat them to a snack. Raymond's love for the family beagle was always evident too. He took pride in caring for his beloved pet. Raymond was able to stay busy for hours focusing on untangling his rope . He could really concentrate and work out kinks time and time again. Heading out on the town was also an event that Raymond looked forward to. He loved to go out to eat. The foods he enjoyed most were fried chicken and pie.
A few years ago, Raymond suffered the painful effects of a stroke. Since that time he had been cared for at the Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids. It was a difficult time for his mother . After 1,012 days at the hospital Raymond passed away. His time here was precious to those who knew and loved him. Raymond will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Every person wants to feel loved, like they belong and that they are special. Raymond did feel loved, special and like he belonged. He had a unique place in his family as they adapted to meet his needs.
