Pauline Kersten

Pauline Kersten,of Portage, MI passed away at her home on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Age 91. Pauline was born in Delaplane, VA on August 30, 1922, the daughter of the late Kemp and Grace (Ridgeway) Shaffer. She was employed by the Ramada Inn for 17 years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and bowling. She was a giving person who liked to donate to numerous Veterans Charities. She was married to Jack McMullen on 1951; he preceded her in death in 1965. She later married William G. Kersten in 1968; he preceded her in death in 1994. She is survived by four children, Dianne (Joe) Kirk of Leesburg, VA, Frances (Terry) Gillam of Kalamazoo, Merrill David (Donna) McMullen of Parchment and Peggy Allison of Kalamazoo; four step-children, Marty Honeycutt, Tina (Ted) Tarr of Allendale, MI, Teresa Long of Wyoming, MI and Roger Kersten; 30 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren. Pauline was preceded in death by children, Jack McMullen, Jr. and Elizabeth Money; and nine siblings. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007. The funeral service will be held at the funeral chapel at 1 PM on Thursday, May 22, 2014. Rev. James Dyke will officiate with interment in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
