WESTERN-PLACHTA - Maureen B. (Plachta) Western, aged 86 of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father Monday, May 26, 2008. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph W. Plachta, second husband, William B. Western, several brothers and sisters. Surviving are her children, Thomas and Laura Plachta of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Jeri Reed of Sugar Land TX, Karol and Jim Steinebach of Belmont, Brian and Denise Plachta of Grand Rapids; her grandchildren, Michelle and Daniel VanderLende, Shawn and Amy Fox, Lindsey and Tony Savickas, Michael Steinebach, Jacob Steinebach, Matthew Plachta, Daniel Plachta, Stephen Plachta, Mary Clair Plachta, Thomas P. Plachta, and Dominic Plachta; great-grandchildren, Alexis Fox, Jordan VanderLende, Gabrielle Fox, Sophia Fox, and Kara Fox; special relation, James and Dorla Western and children, Gary and Lil Western and children; her brother, Dick and Judy Smith of Bay City, MI; two sisters-in-law, Sophie and Stella; one brother-in-law, Ben and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Maureen was born and married to Joe in Bay City. She moved to Mt. Pleasant, Grand Rapids, Florida, and back to Grand Rapids. She and Joe co-owned Lamplighter Reality. Later, she married Bill. Maureen loved family, friends, cards, and laughter. She was devoted to her faith, and prayed the Rosary and Novenas daily. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1120 4 Mile Rd. N.E. with Rev. Mark Peacock as Celebrant. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Saturday. Relatives and friends may meet her family at the Reyers North Valley Chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m., and from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel before processing to church for the Mass.
