Obituary
Lucile passed away Sunday morning, January 18, 2009 at home with her daughters by her side. She was born April 28, 1910 in Newberg Township, MI, one of 12 children to John and Tena Ellen Stephenson. Surviving are her three daughters, Edith Perry of Portage, Phyllis (David) Bent of Marcellus, and Lorraine (Paul) Fifer of White Pigeon; eight grandchildren, David Bent Jr., Denise Gross, Michele Oswald, Lori Trokey, Stephen Perry, Lynette Kidney, Eric Smith, and Tina Boyer; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Beryl Bothwell of Kalamazoo, Beatrice (Dale) Loker of Mendon and Laura (Ronald) Hagenbarth of Watervliet; two sisters-in-law, Jean Stephenson of Mendon and Evalyn Greynolds of Portage; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Herschel Barkalow on December 27, 1981; one daughter, Vivian Barkalow in 1975; one infant son; and eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services for Lucile will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Avenue, with Pastor Martin Breithaupt officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at 3:00 PM on Wednesday at Prairie River Cemetery, Centreville. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Southern Care Hospice or a charity of one's choice.
