Laura Reed

Laura Louise Reed, passed away August 5, 2007. She went home to be with her Lord after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her long time friend and companion, Carol Hankamp. She is predeceased by her mother, Marie. She is survived by her father, Robert Reed of Grand Rapids; her sister, Judith (Thom) Schoolmaster of Winchester, Kentucky; nieces, Kristy (Robert) Baumgart, Amy (Andrew) Jelley; nephew, Robert (Vicky) Schoolmaster; cousins and many friends. Laura graduated Cum Laude from Western Michigan University with her B.A. and then her M.A. in Guidance and Counseling. She was a guidance counselor in Monroe County School Systems in Key West, Florida for 31 years. Laura also served on the supervisory committee for the Monroe County Teachers Federal Credit Union. Laura was a member of Peace Covenant Presbyterian Church for many years. During those years she served as the church organist, choir member, and an elder. She also organized and directed the children's musical programs of the church. Laura loved to travel and did so extensively. One very meaningful trip was when she participated in a Peace Covenant International project and attended the dedication of the Kikuyu Orthopedic Rehabilitation Center in Kenya Africa. Laura felt it was important to be positive and caring, and through her efforts made a meaningful difference in many people's lives. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, August 18, 2007 at 12:00 noon at North Park Presbyterian Church, Grand Rapids, MI. Luncheon to follow after service.
