Obituary
POKORA, JOHN EDWARD John "Jack" Edward Pokora, age 76, went to his heavenly home on July 26, 2013, after his long battle with cancer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, June Frances (Meilstrup) Pokora. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Stephen and Angeline (Koryto) Pokora; his brother, James Pokora; and his son, Michael Pokora. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann (Kenneth) Bensen. He will be forever held in the hearts of his children, William and Loreta Pokora, John and Karen Pokora, Kenneth and Christina Pokora, Catherine and Michael Rummler, Mark and Jessica Pokora, and Bradley and Katrina Pokora. He will also be remembered by his 20 grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jack served in the U.S. Army, worked 16 years at Rapistan, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a whiz at Jeopardy, loved working on his computer, completing crosswords, playing golf, reading, and laughing. Memorial Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday July 30, 2013 at Calvary Church, 707 East Beltline Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525. Visitation will be held Monday at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Faith Hospice. "So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God."
