Janice Smith

Janice Smith, age 72, of Kankakee, formerly of Manteno, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012. Janice was born on March 10, 1940 to the late Lester and Ruth (Powell) Morris. She married Kenneth Smith on February 14, 1960 in Manteno. She worked as a seamstress for Shapiro for 28 years before her retirement in 1996. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Stars. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping trips and especially spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Kenneth Smith, two sons; Scott (Julie) Smith of Louisville, KY. and Stephen (Lisa) Smith of Bourbonnais, IL., five grandchildren; MaryAnn, Jessica, Ashlei, Lance Corporal Mathew Smith of the United States Marine Corps and Nicholas, two brothers; Kenneth “Butch” Morris and Keith “Duke” Morris and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Ruth Morris.

A gathering time for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home’s Kankakee Chapel. There will be a gathering time immediately before the time of service on Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m., also at Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home’s Kankakee Chapel. Burial will be at Kankakee Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
