Hubert (Herb) Luyk, age 91, of Grand Rapids, went to be his Lord and Savior Friday, October 19, 2007 at the Christian Rest Home. He was preceded in death by his son, David Bruce. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (De Vries) of 66 years; his sister, Nellie Poelstra of Escondido, CA and his children and grandchildren, Mary Anne (Thomas) Culbertson and daughter, Christine; Jean Marie (Stefford) Veltema and children, Barbara and Steven; Ruth Elaine (Paul) TeBrake and children, Joseph and Rachel; Daniel Jay (Kristine) and children, Rebecca, Anastasia, Melissa and David; and nine great grandchildren. Born in Sassenheim, Netherlands on October 26, 1916, he emigrated at age eight and was proud to serve in the Navy during World War II. He was a devout member of Seventh Reformed Church. An avid bowler, he also enjoyed photography, golfing and fishing. He loved American History and was a voracious reader. The family is very grateful to the staff at Edison Manor and the Christian Rest Home for their patient, tender, loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Christian Rest Home in his memory (1000 Edison Ave. NW, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49504). Visitation will be Monday, October 22 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, Burton SE. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 23 at the Seventh Reformed Church in Grand Rapids. Zaagman Memorial Chapel
