Henning Christiansen, age 81, of Holland, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Hospice House of Holland.
He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, and began his craft of violin making in 1943. He was 14 years old when he started his apprenticeship. He served in the Danish Military from 1950-1952. He moved to Chicago in 1952 and worked for the firm of Lyon and Healy as a stringed instrument maker and also became the president of the company.
After leaving Lyon and Healey, he established his own shop in Chicago and then moved to Holland in 1987 to establish his current business on 8th Street. He leaves many friends including the families of Paul and Marilyne Van Liere of Holland and Randy and Mary Van Liere of Rockford. As a tribute, if you have an instrument that Henning made or repaired please bring it to the visitation time and play your favorite song. Also, during the ceremony the congregation will be singing the “Lord’s Prayer” and “Precious Lord Take My Hand”. We invite you to accompany those songs with your instrument.
Visitation for Henning will be Saturday, July 3, from 10:00-11:45 a.m. at Maplewood Reformed Church, 133 East 34th Street in Holland. A service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the church. Reverends Jason Semans and Carl Balk will be officiating.
