Genevieve Burke, Age 96, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away at Rose Arbor on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, with her loving family at her side. Genevieve was born in Cleveland, OH on April 25, 1918, the daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Nowacki) Brady. She graduated from Mackenzie High School in 1936. On August 19, 1943, she married the love of her life, Charles J. Burke, who preceded her in passing on January 27, 2008. She was also preceded in passing by a sister, Marjorie Taylor. She had a strong faith in the Lord, and was very active in the Altar Sodality at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Detroit, volunteering at St. Francis School, where all three of her children attended. In 1962, she made Novi her home and was a proud community member. Genevieve joined Holy Family Catholic Church, where she would get involved and volunteer wherever she could. She especially enjoyed reading to children at Novi Public Schools and was a Voting Coordinator for many years in Oakland County. Five years ago, she moved to Kalamazoo and began attending St. Thomas More Parish. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, was a graceful dancer, fine baker, and had fun playing Scrabble. Above all, Genevieve loved spending time with her family. She did her very best to be present at every family event. Her home and heart were always open, and she leaves her family and friends with many cherished memories. She is survived by her loving children, Charles (Pam) Burke, Jr. of Northville, MI, William Burke of Southfield, MI, and Sharon (Tom) Magrath of Kalamazoo, MI; five grandchildren, Bradley, Timothy, Stacey, Jason, Sharon Rose; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, William Brady, Jr.; several nieces, nephews, and great friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 421 Monroe St. Kalamazoo, MI 49006, beginning at 12 PM, with Fr. Ben Huynh and Fr. Ken Schmidt officiating. Private interment will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM, prior to the service at the church.
