Dennis Withers, 83, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, in the city where he was born and built a life filled with love, laughter, and service to his community. Dennis was born on September 21, 1941, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the treasured only son of Roland and Doris Withers, and he maintained a lasting bond with the community he called home.

Growing up on Crooked Lake in Texas Corners, Dennis developed a deep love for nature and adventure. He spent his youth waterskiing with friends, mastering the art of skiing on just one ski, snorkeling, and exploring the woods. His appreciation for the outdoors and wildlife stayed with him throughout his life, and he especially loved bird watching, always finding joy in the beauty of nature.

Dennis attended Western Michigan University, initially pursuing a degree in business. However, his plans changed when he met Dorothy, the love of his life. After marrying, Dennis began a dedicated career in public service, working first for the city of Kalamazoo and then serving as a surveyor for the city of Portage for over 20 years until his retirement.

For 59 years, Dennis shared his life with Dorothy, who survives him, and together they raised three children: Melissa Withers, Bryan Withers, and Jason (Stephanie) Withers. His devotion to his family was unwavering, and he adored his nine grandchildren: Evan, Riley, Aaron, Logan, Lexi, Parker, Gabi, CJ and is also preceded in passing by his beloved granddaughter, Cassidy. Dennis loved photography, capturing countless treasured family moments and scenes of nature. He and Dorothy also enjoyed playing pinochle with friends for years, creating cherished memories around the card table.

A passionate sports fan, Dennis was a lifelong supporter of Michigan teams, especially the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, and Western Michigan University Football. For many years, he held season tickets to WMU football games, cheering on the Broncos with great enthusiasm. His loyalty to his teams and his excitement for the game brought joy to him and those who joined him in the stands or in front of the television.

Dennis was a kind-hearted man with a quick wit, whose warmth and humor made him a friend to all who knew him. His passions were many; he loved animals, was an enthusiastic music fan-particularly of John Lennon's Imagine, his favorite song-and gave his time generously to volunteer with the Jaycees. His commitment to his family, his friends, and his community reflected a life well-lived and a legacy of love and kindness.

A funeral service to honor Dennis's life will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church - Kalamazoo, located at 936 Lake St., Kalamazoo, MI 49001-3090, on December 6th. The family will be receiving friends and family at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon to be held at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dennis's memory to St. Joseph Catholic Church at the same address.

Dennis's family, friends, and loved ones will remember him always for his gentle spirit, his laughter, and his love. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness and love will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.
