Carl Betz, affectionately known as "Coot", passed away Sunday afternoon, November 17, 2024 with his loving daughters and son-in-law by his side.

Carl was born 11/13/1933 in Comstock, the son of the late Wilbur and Helen Betz (Bland). He served in the Navy during the Korean War and attended college under the G.I. bill. Carl married JoAnn Psalmonds in 1952, she preceded him in death on 3/15/2018.

Carl spent his teaching career at Comstock East Elementary School. He received many awards for exemplary service, teacher of the year, and honored alumni of WMU.

Carl was active in the Comstock community, he served on the boards of the Comstock Community Center, Comstock Library, Township planning, and Public School Foundation. Carl was a faithful member of Comstock Methodist Church and Galesburg Methodist Church for 68 years.

Prior to slowing down at age 88, he enjoyed daily visits to Borgess gym, spin cycling, daily meals at Nikos restaurant, wood carving, evening walks, and volunteering at his church.

Carl spent his last 18 months of life at Park Village Pines assisted living. He received compassionate care, enjoyed the activities, staff and fellow residents.

Carl is predeceased by his wife, JoAnn, son Brian, sister Jean Merrill, and brother Henry.

He leaves behind his loving daughters, Brenda Curry, Bonnie (Bob Bogema), sisters in law, Jane Betz, Gay (Ray) Hallam, Debbie Thomas. Grandsons Eric, Jacob Curry, great grandson Jackson and life long friend Lenard Platteborze.

There will be no service at this time. Interment at Fort Custer VA Cemetery will be announced at a later date. If you choose to memorialize Carl by charitable donation, family suggests the Comstock Community Senior Center .
