Passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice on Tuesday, May 9, 2006. Benjamin was born October 10, 1912 in New York City, New York, the son of Louis and Bertha (Fishman) Katz, and has been a Kalamazoo area resident since 1978. He had served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was a hospital administrator for over 35 years with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation. Benjamin was a member of the Congregation of Moses. On January 27, 1943, he was united in marriage to the former Ruth M. Malman, who preceded him in death on July 23, 1994. Surviving are his son, Joel and wife, Brenda Katz of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Michael Katz of Santa Monica, CA, and Sarah Katz of Kalamazoo; two nieces, Diane (Larry) Citron and Florence (Arthur) Rosen, both of New York. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Simon Katz; and a sister, Ida Roth. Funeral Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with Rabbi Harvey Spivak officiating. Interment will follow in Jewish Riverside Cemetery. Memorials in Ben-jamin's memory may be directed to the Congregation of Moses.
