A loving kindhearted, and compassionate woman, Ann Ramer found the greatest joy in the love she shared with her family.

During the first half of the 1940's, the eyes of our nation were focused overseas as numerous young servicemen and women were serving during WWII. It was during this eventful time in our nation’s history that a young couple from Orange County, Florida, was pleased to announce the birth of their baby girl on November 26, 1944. Ann M. was the second of four children born to her parents, Edward and Doris (Rohde) Haley, and was raised in the family home alongside her siblings, Tom, John and Mary. When Ann was 12, her family relocated to Toledo, Ohio, where she attended DeVeaux and in her high school years at DeVillbis High School where she was active in social clubs.

Shortly after graduating from high school in 1962, Ann was introduced to the young man who stole her heart. His name was Don Ramer, and they were introduced by her friend, David, who was Don’s twin brother. Sparks flew right from the start, and they were married on August 24, 1963.

The newlyweds settled in Toledo where Don owned his own company, Ramer Toro and Mower Center. Together they were blessed with two children, Carrie and Brad. In 1979 Don and Ann moved the family to Kalamazoo and bought a house on Long Lake where they remained for the rest of her life. Ann’s family was first and foremost in her heart as she fully devoted herself to caring for her husband and children.

Throughout her life Ann was one to keep busy. She enjoyed getting out of the house and earning a little spending money by cleaning homes for years. With a love for horses, Ann kept several horses of her own for years. She could often be found out in her gardens and was known for her amazing flower display around her yard. Ann enjoyed everything about lakeside living and being out in the sun, and for more than 20 years she and Don spent the better part of February at Treasure Island in the St. Petersburg area of Florida. She enjoyed collecting a variety of things including antiques, Mickey and Minnie Mouse figurines, teddy bears, and Santas just to name a few. Ann was also into arts and crafts and loved going to craft shows, and she also treasured the companionship of her cat, Katie.

Although Ann was devastated with Don’s death in 2011, she found strength in her bible studies with Jennie and her friends from Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and in time started going to meeting with her close friend, Jennie, who was both an important rock of strength and comfort for Ann.

Ann Ramer was reserved and more introverted when it came to crowds or being in large groups, but when with her friends and her family she more easily came out of her shell and was fun to be around. Ann’s love for her family was unmatched, and she cherished being with her grandchildren whenever she could. She will be deeply missed.

Ann H. Ramer died on January 2, 2014 in her home unexpectedly. Ann’s family includes her children, Carrie (Rich) Bennett and Brad (Amy) Ramer; grandchildren, Cassie & Chelsea Marschall, Cameron, Brynn & Brice Ramer, and Laurissa Hill; great-grandchildren, Haley-Ann Marschall, Ameleah Hill and Brighton Saddler; siblings, Tom Haley, John (Pat) Haley, and Mary (Lester) Hands as well as many nieces. A memorial service for both Ann & Don is being planned and the date and time will be announced in the future. Please visit www.lifestorynet.com where you can archive a photo or memory and sign her guest book. Memorial donations may be directed to the Kalamazoo Humane Society.
