Alfred "Fred" J. Julian, age 75, of Comstock Park, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013. Fred was a teacher and football coach at West Catholic High School and more recently at Grand Rapids Community College. During his football career, Fred played at Detroit's Pershing High School, where he was awarded "All City", "All State" and "All American" by the Detroit Free Press. He also continued outstanding play at the University of Michigan. In 1960-61 he played professionally for the Titans of New York, the team that became the New York Jets. He earned his Masters Degree in Education from the U of M. Fred was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the U of M "M Club". Fred was preceded by his parents, Alfred and Rose Anna (Meola) Julian; his wife, Joyce; his son, Bradley; and his brother, Dennis Julian. He is survived by his children, Jennifer (Robert) Sciamanna, Dominic "Nick" Julian and Lindsay (Scott) Hunter; six grandchildren, Ryan and Mallory Sciamanna, Sydney and Jesse Julian, Alexis Donley and Avery and Josie Hunter. He is also survived by his sister, Norma Lipar; and his love, Jacqueline Cattani. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1200 Alpine Church Rd. NW, Comstock Park. The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday from 6-8 pm and Tuesday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Dr. NE, Belmont and one hour prior to mass at church.
