Life Story / Obituary
Tanya Star McCall had an energy for life that encompassed a multitude of interests and a great many friendships. She enjoyed nature and sport, animals and gardening, art and music. Her friends and family gave her the greatest joy, and her love for God was demonstrated in her care for others.
Tanya was born in the decade of mood rings, Rubik’s cubes and yellow smiley faces, a lighthearted contrast to an earlier decade of war protests and hard driving rock music. December 19, 1971 was an especially bright day in the life of Robert Lee Jr. and Carol Sue (Vantuinen) McCall, who celebrated the birth of their daughter, Tanya Star, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Tanya grew up in nearby Wayland, where she and her family of two brothers threw themselves into a life of adventure—from Harleys and skateboards to pets and the arts.
Whether outdoors or indoors, Tanya felt at home. She enjoyed being out in the snow as well as cooking in the kitchen. She kept a vegetable garden and chased around with her beloved golden retriever and a rabbit named Kitty. She played drums to her brother’s guitar and nurtured her love of the arts through drawing and writing.
Though she never married, Tanya’s life with Scott Redding was strong and enduring. She had known him from their grade school days, over 20 years. Tanya’s devotion to her family and friends was returned to her in the love and care they showed to her.
Tanya McCall, age 40 of Orangeville and a 1989 graduate of Wayland area schools, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012 at her home. Her family includes her mother: Carol; her brothers: Robert McCall III and Soney Walton; her partner of 11 years, Scott and a niece and nephew. Tanya was preceded in death by her father Robert Lee Jr. who passed away in 1996. Visit with her family and friends Wednesday at 1:00 at the Life Story Funeral Home, Plainwell; 120 Woodhams St. (269-685-5881). A funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the same location. Please visit Tanya’s memory page at www.lifestorynet.com where you can read her life story, archive a memory or photo and sign her memory book online before coming to funeral home.
