Paul Frederick Barnes Saline Paul Frederick Barnes, age 65, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at The Bronson Hospital located in Kalamazoo, MI. His death resulted from severe injuries sustained three days prior when he was involved in a tragic accident in Albion, MI. He was born September 7, 1942 in Artesia, CA, the son of Frank and Catherine (Warren) Barnes and had family ties to both Michigan and California. Paul enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves as a senior at Glendora High School and became active in the CB Division of the U.S. Navy after graduation. He had been employed by the Ann Arbor Fire Department for over twenty-five years until his retirement. Paul also spent over 30 years farming properties on Mooreville Road and Weber Road in Saline. Paul was never short of ideas when it came to growing his crops or expanding his businesses. Barnes Pickle Farm soon became Barnes Farm Market which eventually led to a greenhouse and sweet corn business. At the peak of his career, Paul was as famous for his blueberry donuts as he was for his unconventional farming. In recent years Paul had developed much of his 40-acre farm into two subdivisions and has overseen the construction of several homes. Survivors include one son, Michael (Amy) Barnes of Swartz Creek, MI and one grandson Colby Barnes also of Swartz Creek; daughters, Michele Barnes of Thailand and Tamara Barnes of Philadelphia, PA; cherished friend, Candace Boehlke of Albion, MI; and faithful companion "Sis." He is also survived by one brother Peter Barnes, a nephew Scott Barnes of Tecumseh, MI and his former wife, Julie Barnes of Ann Arbor. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 12, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 1200 N. Ann Arbor St., Saline, with Pastor Dwayne Bagley officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery Saline. Paul was a member of the Gift Of Life, Michigan Organ & Tissue Donation Program in which he participated upon his death. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to The Charity of One's Choice. Envelopes will be available at the First United Methodist Church of Saline, where friends may begin calling on Sunday, May 11, 2008 from 4:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. and at the Church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Service at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow the graveside services at the Saline American Legion Post #322.
