May Ritsema

May O'Dessa Ritsema went to her heavenly home on April 12, 2013 to rejoin her husband Harold who died on February 9th. She was born February 13, 1918 in Cooper Township, the daughter of Eliphalet and Lura Belle Thompson. She is also predeceased by her daughter Arla, and an infant son Larry. Harold and May were married for 69 years; to the union, were born five children. Arla, twin boys John and Larry, James and Alvin. One of Mays enjoyments was watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. May was taken out of her nursing program because she married Harold before he was shipped to the European front during WWII. After her children were grown, she went back to school and got her LPN, RN and BSN from Southwestern Community College in partnership with Ferris State College. She worked for many years with Michigan Commission for the Blind in Kalamazoo. The family will meet friends 10-11 AM, Thursday, at Faith Bible Church; 350 South Paw Paw Street, Lawrence, MI 49064 where the funeral service will be 11:00 AM with Rev. Walter Gerstung officiating. Interment will take place in Grand Prairie Cemetery at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Bible Church or to Dean Brown at Rural Bible Mission.
