Leona (Holmes) Douthett

DOUTHETT - Leona M. (Holmes) Douthett, age 91, of Grand Rapids, died Friday, March 13, 2009. She is survived by her children, Patty (Bill) Faber, Joan Holmes, Jude (Doug) Smith, James A. Holmes, and Mary Ann (Jeffery) Van Kuiken; six grandchildren, Jennifer Faber, James M. Holmes, Jared Holmes, K. Alex Smith, Quin Smith, and Devon Holmes; and several nieces and nephews. Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Margaret Miller, her three sisters, Lorraine Helms, Pauline Stadtfield-Bott, and Lucille Killgore, her husbands, John W. Holmes and Marshall P. Douthett, as well as her son, J. Michael Holmes. Lee was a member of the American Business Women's Association and a founding member of St. Jude's Parish. She was abundantly proud of her Irish heritage, possessed a quick wit, and consistently displayed an uplifting and positive attitude. Her fun loving spirit, zest for life, and deep love for her family was ever present. Throughout life, Lee always made an effort to include everyone and gave endlessly of her time and talent to charitable endeavors and those around her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 17, 2009 (on the Feast of St. Patrick) at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 224 Carrier St. NE, Grand Rapids, Rev. Edward Vella, C.Ss.R., presiding. A Rosary will be recited that morning beginning at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour immediately preceding the service.
