José Martinez, 69, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011, at Gratiot Medical Center in Alma.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski presiding. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday one hour prior to Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Joe was born March 17, 1942, in San Antonio, TX, the only surving twin son of the late Anastacio and Catalina (Ibarra) Martinez. He married Joleen Overla on March 13, 1986, in Mt. Pleasant.
He was employed by Yankee’s, Zody’s and lastly, Giantway, from which he retired after 17 years. Some of his favorite pastimes were bowling, pool and helping friends at a moment’s notice. But the most important thing in his life was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his wife, Joleen; sons, Randy (Llara) Martinez of Shepherd, Joe (Kelly) Martinez of Paris, TN and Rob Anderson of Alma; daughters, Tammy (Bob) Craven of Mt. Pleasant, Janet (Joe) Kettler of Grimesland, NC, and Robin (Steve) Bethka of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Crystal Tatro of Mt. Pleasant, Olivia (Spc. Warren) Whitman of Fort Hood, TX, José, Will and Ryan Martinez of Shepherd, Mike and Ryan Morrissey, Clarissa, Tyler Lee, Tyler Joe and Antonio Martinez, all of Paris, TN; Miranda Martinez of Mt. Pleasant, Nicole and Dakota Martinez of Mt. Pleasant, Nathan, Amber and Chris Anderson of Alma, Brandon Martinez of Mt. Pleasant, Jason Hilts of Mt. Pleasant, Robert and Debra Craven of Mt. Pleasant, Kyle, Teah, Alex and Caleb Kettler of Grimesland, NC, and Steven, Jared and Kirsten Bethka of Mt. Pleasant; six great-grandchildren; and siblings, Rita Hard of Oklahoma, Toby (Billie Jo) Martinez of Weidman, Gloria (Willie) De La Cruz of Texas, Jesse Martinez of St. Louis, Tony (Mary) Martinez of Mt. Pleasant, and Mary Ann (Doug) Reava of Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott Martinez; and parents-in-law, Vern and Mary Strayer.
