Obituary
John Tyndale Charter went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 27, 2024, after a brief illness.
John was born on August 27, 1936, in Nuneaton, England. As a teenager, he emigrated with his parents and brothers to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He attended Eastern Pentecostal Bible College in Peterborough, Ontario. There, he met his wife, Murelann Belsey, at church. They were married in 1958.
After graduating from Seminary at Central Methodist College in 1966, he pastored churches in Ontario, Missouri, and Michigan until his retirement in 1999. He served in the West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church for 26 years as head pastor in Homer, Mendon, Niles, and Battle Creek. He was active in the Emmaus Walk ministry. He also served as an interim pastor at the Westwood Church of God in Kalamazoo post retirement. He was a devout evangelical Christian and felt it was his calling and passion to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others.
John loved reading, writing, soccer, and was a handyman who could fix most anything.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and granddad, survived by his wife of 66 years, Murelann Belsey Charter, children J. Mark Charter (Michele), Melody Crouch (Trent), and Sharon Palmateer (Shane) and five grandchildren, Nikki, Alex, Courtney, Tallon and Hollyn. He is also survived by two brothers Philip Charter and Andrew Charter.
John was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Doris (Pinchbeck) Charter, and brothers David Charter and Stephen Charter.
A celebration of life will be held for the family at a date to be determined. The family asks that donations be made to Samaritan's Purse in lieu of flowers.
