George Edward Hilt passed away on October 2, 2012 in Juno Beach, Florida at the age of 96. George was born March 7, 1916 in Muskegon, Michigan to John and Margaret (Hesse) Hilt. George served in the United States Army from approximately 1943 to 1945. He was a member of the Third Army, 7th Corps, Quartermaster Corps in the European Theater. He was trained as an amphibious landing craft driver and later as a supply truck driver. He landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day +1 with a landing craft filled with 5-gallon cans of gasoline. On D-Day +7 he was reassigned as a supply truck driver and followed General George Patton's unit on into Germany. George, with his late brother Jack, founded Quality Farm and Fleet. George was an incredibly friendly man who loved traveling, golfing, fishing, playing cards and Hawaii and its people.

SURVIVORS

He is survived by his current wife, Betty Jean Hilt and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Monroe Hilt; his sister and five brothers, Robert, Marguerite, Charles, Wayne, Raymond and Jack.
