Edward Goebel

Edward H. Goebel, age 98, of Holland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Oakcrest Manor of Holland surrounded by his family.

Edward was born February 21, 1909, in Grand Rapids.

He was employed by General Motors for 42 years, working in Grand Rapids; Hamilton, OH; Detroit; and Mansfield, OH, moving back to Holland in 1971.

After retiring from General Motors, he was on the Board of Directors of Donnelly Corporation for 19 years.

He was an avid golfer and a member of the Holland Country Club for many years. He was very active in community service during his years in Holland.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Isabel, in 2003; his parents; 2 brothers, Robert and Jack; a sister, Grace Ann; and grandsons, Christopher and James Aaron.

He is survived by his children: Ann and Jack De Vries of Frankfort, MI, Jackie and Kenneth Shaver of Arcadia, MI, Edward and Carol Goebel of Hudsonville; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; Sisters-in-Law: Mrs. Robert (Doris) Goebel of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Jack (Donna) Goebel of Grand Rapids; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13 at the Notier-Ver Lee-Langeland Funeral Chapel, 315 E 16th St., Holland, with Rev. Dennis DeWitt officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Grand Rapids.

Visiting hours will 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Oakcrest Manor of Holland, 11907 James St., Holland, MI 49424.
