Obituary
Arnold Wilde, age 95, of Wayland, passed away April 26, 2013 at Providence Nursing Facility in Zeeland. He was born in Detroit July 4, 1917, the dear son of the late Ewald and Alvina Wilde, and brother to the late Norma Wilde. He grew up in Kalamazoo where he graduated from Kalamazoo Central and attended Western Michigan University, where he lettered in Cross County. He was the beloved husband to the late Virginia R. Wilde (Mason) for 61 years. He was a devoted father to Kris (Mary), Wendy (Dennis) Bogue, Jill (David) Scheel, Michael and Patrick (Sara); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren. Arnold served in the U.S. Army 857th Corp of Engineers and was a survivor of the Rohna Disaster. He had risen to the rank of Major, when he was honorably discharged. He returned home and raised his family in Wayland, where he worked as manager of Dancer's. He served on the City Council and the Allegan County Board of Health for many years. He was a member of the Wayland VFW Post 7581 and the Wayland American Legion. An avid golfer, Arnold hit a hole in one at age 78. He was a member of the United Church of Wayland. After retirement he served as a hospice volunteer. A memorial service for Arnie will be held this summer at the United Church of Wayland with military honors. His cremated remains will be interred at Elmwood Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Wings of Hope Hospice, the Providence Nursing Facility or the United Church of Wayland.
