Obituary
Alfred F. Guertler, 59, of Union City passed away May 19, 2009 at the Community Health Center of Branch County. He was born September 8, 1949 in Miesbach, Germany to Rupert and Ottilie (Rapp) Guertler. He married Janice Maggart on September 27, 1969 in Tekonsha. He had lived in the Union City area all of his life, graduating from Athens High School in 1967. He has owned and operated Union Station in Union City for 10 years and has worked at H. C. Starck in Coldwater for 26 years. Alfred is survived by his wife, Janice; three daughters; Carrie and Jeff Gorton of Hudson, Stacy and Scot Needham of Concord, Rhonda and Geno Burk of Union City; his mother, Ottie Guertler of Battle Creek; one brother, Rupert Guertler of Battle Creek; three sisters, Anna and Jerry Johnson of Burlington, Tillie Camp and Steve Weller of Bronson, Monica and Larry Jolly of Flatrock; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Rupert Guertler; a son, Buddy; and grandmother, Katherine Wurm. He was a volunteer fireman, a former zoning inspector, police reserve and a member of the Coldwater Eagles. He enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, May 22, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Putnam Funeral Home in Union City. Services will be held on May 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Putnam Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
