Bonnie Ackers Robins Of Portage Bonnie Ackers Robins, of Portage died Friday, October 3, 2008 at the age of 77. Bonnie was born October 24, 1930, in Colorado Springs, CO, to Andrew Calvin and Edith Brown Ackers. She lived there until she married Burl H. Robins, Jr. in 1952. They lived in Clovis NM, Hahn, Germany and Omaha NE before moving to the Kalamazoo area in 1964. Bonnie is survived by two sons: Andrew C. Robins and Russell H. Robins, five grandchildren: Teague, Jaime, Noah, Kaegan and Adriano Robins. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sisters: Carmen Barbee and Elaine Mansur. Bonnie attended the Colorado State College of Education (now the University of Northern Colorado) where she became a member of Pi Kappa Delta. She was graduated from Western Michigan University with majors in English and Communication Arts & Science. She was a long time member of a book club known simply as the Book Group. She also enjoyed memberships in The Emmaus Community. Over the years, she was a volunteer for the Girl Scouts of America, the Ecumenical Senior Center, Ministry with Community, Hackett Catholic Central High School, Casa Amparo, Schools for All and other charitable organizations. A memorial service open house will be held at her home on Saturday, November 22, from 4 to 7 PM. The family suggest that Bonnie would have preferred any memorial gifts be in the form of a contribution to a favorite charity.
