Sally Ann DeVries McCurdy Armstrong, age 81, died on March 30, 2008. Sally was born in East Grand Rapids, Michigan, and lived most of her life in Michigan and Illinois. She moved to Cadillac for retirement. Sally was a Registered Nurse and graduated from the University of Michigan. Most of her career was spent in nursing administration. Sally enjoyed the beauty of nature; she loved walking on beaches and was an avid gardener. She wore bright colors, especially purple, and lots of beautiful jewelry. She loved people and hoped to leave this world a little more beautiful than when she arrived in it. Sally is survived by her husband, Thomas W. Armstrong; her sons, David S. McCurdy (Katherine) of Cadillac, Robert D. McCurdy of Rockford, Illinois, Donald W. "Bo" McCurdy (Patricia) of Cadillac; step-daughter, Susan G. Larson (Kent) of Midland; step-son, James E. Armstrong (Jane) of Petoskey; and step-son, Daniel A. Armstrong (Wendy) of Petoskey. Sally was blessed with eighteen grandchildren, including Katie, Brian (Dalton), Mollie, Kelly and Megan McCurdy; Benjamin, Jonathan, Matthew, Sarah and Rachel Larson; and Samuel, Lily, Emma, Anna, Jack, Abby, and Katie Armstrong. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Carolyn DeVries; her first husband, Donald L. McCurdy; and her sisters, Roberta Lapides, Phyllis Jones, and Joan DeVries. Visitation will be on Friday, April 4, 2008, at Peterson Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cadillac with Rev.William Hirschfeld officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 200 East Harris Street, Cadillac, Michigan, to be used for the new sound system.
